How It Works
Getting started with home physiotherapy or occupational therapy in Southampton is simple.
Call Us
Speak to a senior therapist for free advice. We'll listen to your situation and answer any questions — no obligation.
We Match You
We pair you with the right therapist for your needs — someone local to Southampton with the right expertise for your condition.
Home Visit
Your therapist visits you at home — usually within a few days. No travel stress, no waiting rooms, just expert care in your own space.
Why Choose Home Visits in Southampton?
Southampton is a major city with excellent healthcare facilities, but getting to clinic appointments isn't always easy — especially after surgery, a hospital stay, or when mobility is limited. Our home visit service removes the stress of travel so you can focus entirely on your recovery.
Treatment in Your Real Environment
We assess and treat you in your own home — practising on your stairs, getting in and out of your chair, and using your bathroom. This makes therapy immediately relevant.
No Waiting Lists
As a private practice, there's no waiting list. Most Southampton patients are seen within days of their first call — essential when you've just left hospital.
Family Can Be Involved
Home visits mean family members or carers can easily join sessions, learn exercises, and understand how to support recovery between appointments.

Occupational Therapy"Following a major accident I was discharged from hospital with a repaired but non functioning arm and leg. Found Medella Physiotherapy on a Google search and have been receiving treatment from one of their physios with a great depth of knowledge. She has been a tremendous support mentally and guiding me through various exercises to re-establish strength and movement. She has been liaising closely with the NHS physio service to provide a far greater range of treatment than the NHS can provide. Well worth the expenditure."— Greg Harrington
A Young City With Tens of Thousands of Older Residents
On paper, Southampton reads as a young city — its student population pulls the median age down to around 34, against 40 for England (2021 Census). But that headline hides real numbers: more than 35,000 residents — roughly one in seven — are aged 65 or over (ONS, 2024), clustered in the quieter suburbs such as Bassett, Chilworth and Bitterne Park rather than the student-heavy centre, and among the city's fastest-growing age groups.
For those residents, getting to an appointment is rarely simple. Southampton General is one of the region's busiest hospital sites, and University Hospital Southampton itself advises patients to allow extra time to park because spaces are limited at peak periods. For an older adult managing repeated outpatient trips after a fall, an operation or a stroke, that journey alone can use up the very energy recovery depends on.
A home visit removes that obstacle. We bring the physiotherapy or occupational therapy to you — no parking, no traffic, no waiting room — and everything we practise is in the home you will actually be managing in.

Recovering at Home After Southampton General
Older adults across the city are usually treated at Southampton General Hospital (University Hospital Southampton) — home to the Wessex Neurological Centre and one of the region's main stroke and neurosciences hubs, with a hyper-acute stroke unit and a dedicated stroke rehabilitation ward. Depending on the admission, more complex step-down rehabilitation may continue at the Western Community Hospital in Millbrook, where Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare runs the South of England Rehabilitation Centre.
Once someone is back at home, NHS community rehabilitation — through teams such as the Southampton Community Independence Service — and Southampton City Council's reablement service take over. Because Southampton is a unitary authority, that reablement is arranged by the city council rather than Hampshire County Council, and, like community rehabilitation, it is typically time-limited to around six weeks (NICE NG74).
When that window ends but recovery is still ongoing, we continue at home — unhurried, one-to-one physiotherapy and occupational therapy for as long as it helps, working with the NHS and council care already in place. Our guidance on stroke and neurological recovery is on our stroke rehabilitation page, and our blog on returning from hospital after a stroke or fall walks families through the first steps.

Which hospital will I be discharged from in Southampton?
Most older adults in Southampton are treated and discharged from Southampton General Hospital, run by University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, which houses the Wessex Neurological Centre and the city’s main stroke and rehabilitation services. More complex step-down rehabilitation sometimes continues at the Western Community Hospital in Millbrook. After discharge, NHS community rehabilitation and Southampton City Council’s reablement service usually provide support at home — typically time-limited, often to around six weeks (NICE NG74). Once that period ends, our home-visit physiotherapists and occupational therapists can continue the work at home, alongside any NHS or council care already in place.
