"Our father aged 98 had a fall and fractured his leg. When he came out of hospital he was advised to have regular physiotherapy to get him walking again. Seena worked with him on a regular basis for about 3 months and our father can now get around on his own again. Without Seena's skill, encouragement and patience I don't think we would be where we are today. She also kindly gave us regular updates on his progress. We are very grateful for all Seena has done and would unhesitatingly recommend her."

Home Visit

Why Choose Home Visits in Poole?

Poole is a thriving coastal town with a mix of urban areas and beautiful harbour-side communities. Whether you live in Sandbanks, Canford Cliffs, or out towards Broadstone, getting to clinic appointments isn't always easy — especially after a hip or knee replacement, a hospital stay, or when mobility is limited. Many of our Poole patients are referred to us after discharge from Poole Hospital when NHS community physiotherapy waiting times are too long. Our home visit service removes the stress of travel so you can focus entirely on your recovery.

Treatment in Your Real Environment

We assess and treat you in your own home — practising on your stairs, getting in and out of your chair, and using your bathroom. This makes therapy immediately relevant.

No Waiting Lists

As a private practice, there's no waiting list. Most Poole patients are seen within days of their first call — essential when you've just left hospital.

Hospital Discharge Support

We work with University Hospitals Dorset to ensure a smooth transition home from Poole Hospital, with continuity of care from day one.

"Jo was excellent in supporting my 99 year old dad after he suffered a hip fracture. She supported him to get mobile and provided exercises to help him regain muscle strength. Lots of incredibly helpful suggestions and an extremely positive and encouraging therapist — we are extremely grateful!"

— Annie Jenkinson

"First class Occupational Health service provided to my 90 year old father-in-law. Our occupational therapist was thorough, friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend."

Poole's Older Population — and Why We Come to You

Poole sits within the Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole (BCP) area, which has an older age profile than England as a whole. At the 2021 Census more than one in five BCP residents — about 22% — were aged 65 or over, with 3.4% aged 85 and over, and the median age had risen to 42. The area's oldest communities cluster along the coast at Canford Cliffs and inland at Broadstone, both of which we serve directly.

Poole's harbour geography also makes some journeys genuinely unpredictable. Hamworthy is separated from the town centre — and from Poole Hospital — by two lifting bridges, Poole Bridge and Twin Sails, which together lift around 6,000 times a year. For an older adult with a fixed appointment time, a raised bridge or a diversion can turn a short trip into an anxious one.

A home visit removes that timing risk entirely. We bring the physiotherapy or occupational therapy to your door — no bridge to wait for, no hospital car park, and no waiting room between you and your recovery.

From Hospital to Home in Poole

Many of the older adults we support in Poole come to us after a hospital stay. Under University Hospitals Dorset, Poole Hospital is now the major planned-care site — the base for planned surgery such as hip and knee replacements — while Royal Bournemouth Hospital has become the major emergency hospital, so a planned operation and an emergency admission after a fall or stroke may now begin at different sites. Some older patients then move to a step-down rehabilitation bed at Alderney Hospital in Parkstone before returning home.

Once you are home, NHS rehabilitation is usually taken over by Dorset HealthCare's community therapy team for Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch, alongside short-term reablement arranged by BCP Council. That community rehabilitation and reablement is typically time-limited — usually to around six weeks (NICE NG74).

When that support comes to an end but recovery is still ongoing, we carry it on at home: senior, one-to-one therapy for as long as it is helping, working with whatever NHS or council care is already in place. Because falls and hip fractures are a common reason for admission locally, much of what we do is strength, balance and confidence work built around your own home — see our falls prevention service, or our guide to what happens after a parent has a fall.

No, you can book our services directly without a referral. We always aim to work collaboratively with your GP or hospital consultant and will liaise with them when appropriate to ensure seamless care.

Which hospital will I be discharged from in Poole?

Most Poole residents are discharged from one of University Hospitals Dorset’s two main sites. Poole Hospital is now the major planned-care hospital, handling planned surgery such as hip and knee replacements, while Royal Bournemouth Hospital is now the major emergency hospital for the area, so falls, fractures and strokes are increasingly managed there. Some older patients spend time first in a rehabilitation bed at Alderney Hospital in Parkstone before going home. Once you are home, NHS community rehabilitation from Dorset HealthCare and reablement arranged by BCP Council are typically time-limited, usually to around six weeks (NICE NG74) — and we can continue your physiotherapy and occupational therapy at home after that, alongside any NHS care.
