“Taking a client-centred approach, I provide occupational therapy that supports meaningful goals, maximises independence and functional participation, and enhances quality of life.”

Adriana is a Senior Occupational Therapist with over 25 years’ experience, specialising in neurological rehabilitation and complex case management. She provides home visits across East Dorset, the New Forest and Southampton, alongside her own independent neuro-OT practice and case-management work.

A career in neurological rehabilitation

Adriana spent 22 years in the NHS, developing her skills in rehabilitation, and specialising in neurological rehabilitation. Whilst she has experience of working in hospital settings, for much of her NHS career she focused on the provision of rehabilitation in the community and enjoys working with people in their own homes.

Alongside her NHS work, Adriana has also built extensive experience in private practice, which has predominantly been providing specialist rehabilitation and support to individuals after brain injury. This includes providing specialist rehabilitation and case management input in care settings, in an individual’s own home and also in the transitionary period when an individual is working towards skills for a discharge home.

During her extensive career Adriana has been able to develop a number of specialist skills including cognitive rehabilitation, upper limb rehabilitation, contracture management and splinting, functional skills training and the provision of support in the psychological adjustment process.

How Adriana works with her patients

Adriana works in a genuinely client-centred way — focusing on what matters to each person and building the rehabilitation around their own meaningful goals and priorities, so that progress translates into regaining skills and increasing active participation in everyday life. She also brings an understanding of the psychological side of recovery, supporting people with the anxiety and adjustment that so often accompany a change in health or ability.

Why home visits

“Working in someone’s own environment lets the rehabilitation be as client-centred and personally meaningful as possible,” Adriana says. “It gives real insight into a person’s routines and the challenges they actually face day to day, so the treatment reflects the goals that matter to them.”

Outside of work

Outside of work Adriana sings with a local community choir — she loves the connection, creativity, and fun it brings. She’s also happiest by the coast, taking long coastal walks and spending time at her beach hut with family and friends.
