Home Visits Across the New Forest

Home Physiotherapy & OT in the New Forest

We provide private physiotherapy and occupational therapy home visits across the entire New Forest National Park — from Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst to Lymington, New Milton, and the smaller villages in between. We understand that for residents in rural areas like Burley or Sway, travelling to a clinic isn't always possible. Specialising in elderly rehabilitation, we help patients recover safely at home after discharge from Lymington New Forest Hospital or Southampton General.

"Naomi has been providing regular physiotherapy for my Father following quite a severe stroke. Dad always looks forward to and enjoys Naomi's visits. She is very kind, calm, friendly and professional. I have always felt that his treatment was beneficial and the improvement in his movement since his stroke has been down to Naomi's expertise and encouragement."

Why Choose Home Visits in the New Forest?

The New Forest is a beautiful but rural area, and for many older residents, getting to a clinic appointment can be difficult or impossible. Public transport is limited, and driving long distances after surgery or illness is often out of the question. By bringing expert care to your home, we remove these barriers and allow you to focus entirely on your recovery.

Treatment in Your Real Environment

We assess and treat you in your own home — practising on your stairs, getting in and out of your chair, and navigating your garden. This makes therapy immediately relevant to daily life.

No Waiting Lists

As a private practice, there's no waiting list. Most New Forest patients are seen within days of their first call — essential when you've just left hospital.

Family Can Be Involved

Home visits mean family members or carers can easily join sessions, learn exercises, and understand how to support recovery between appointments.

What New Forest Clients Say

Independent reviews from families we have helped. Read all 31 reviews.

"I had recently had a fall and addtionally was having difficulty with walking. This had resulted in a loss of confidence but after a course of exercises provided by Seena Thomas I have recovered my strength and I am walking better, and with confidence. Seena is a delightful person and highly professional, approachable and encouraging. I would not hesitate to recommended the services of Medella."

— Nicholas Girdler

"I cannot recommend Medella Home Physiotherapy highly enough. From the initial quick response from my enquiry through to the amazing treatment and support given to my mum. Our therapist has been inspirational in helping get her confidence back to be more mobile and start walking further with her exercises and support during each session. Just a fantastic team and company. Thank you."

The oldest corner of Hampshire — and why that matters here

The New Forest has the oldest age profile of any district in Hampshire. Around 29% of residents are aged 65 or over, and the median age is 51 — a decade above the figure for England as a whole. For a home-visit physiotherapy and occupational therapy practice, that shapes everything we do across the Forest.

It is also one of the most dispersed. Older adults are spread across dozens of villages — Burley, Sway, Minstead, Beaulieu, Boldre — many a long drive from Southampton and served by fewer and fewer rural bus routes; local dial-a-ride schemes exist precisely because those buses have gone. After a fall, an operation or a spell of illness, simply getting to an appointment can become the hardest part of recovery.

Bringing the therapist to the door removes that barrier entirely. We assess and treat on your own stairs, in your own bathroom, along the walk to your own kitchen — so every session works towards the way you actually live.

After a hospital stay in the New Forest

Most New Forest residents who need hospital care are admitted to University Hospital Southampton (Southampton General). On the western edge of the district — around New Milton, Barton on Sea and Bransgore — some are instead discharged from the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (University Hospitals Dorset), though community rehabilitation still follows the person's Hampshire GP.

Some patients step down to Lymington New Forest Hospital first, whose Deerleap ward provides stroke and general rehabilitation before the journey home. Once home, NHS community therapy from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and reablement from Hampshire County Council take over. This support is skilled, but finite: NHS community rehabilitation and reablement are typically time-limited, usually to around six weeks (NICE NG74).

That is the point at which families most often call us. We pick up where the NHS block ends and keep going at home for as long as it helps — working alongside any NHS or council care still in place, never cutting across it. Whether the goal is rebuilding strength and mobility after a fall or operation, or steadying confidence on the stairs, we carry the momentum forward. Many families find our guide to planning a hospital discharge a helpful place to start.
