"We had Seena help my 91 year old mum recover from a hip replacement operation last year. Seena was excellent at encouraging my mum to do all the appropriate exercises and getting her confidence back after her fall. We have been very pleased with the results. We have been using Seena on a weekly basis for 10 months as we see the benefit she is giving to my mum. She would not be as strong on her feet if we did not have Seena helping us. Thank you Seena."

Why Choose Home Visits in Bournemouth?
Bournemouth is a vibrant coastal town with excellent healthcare facilities, but getting to clinic appointments isn't always easy — especially after surgery, a hospital stay, or when mobility is limited. Our home visit service removes the stress of travel so you can focus entirely on your recovery.
Treatment in Your Real Environment
We assess and treat you in your own home — practising on your stairs, getting in and out of your chair, and using your bathroom. This makes therapy immediately relevant.
No Waiting Lists
As a private practice, there's no waiting list. Most Bournemouth patients are seen within days of their first call — essential when you've just left hospital.
Family Can Be Involved
Home visits mean family members or carers can easily join sessions, learn exercises, and understand how to support recovery between appointments.

"The physiotherapy we received is outstanding. I can't recommend the benefits of having a home physio highly enough. After being told by a hospital physio that he would never walk again, after 4 weeks of treatment my dad is now able to walk with assistance and is making huge progress."

"I contacted Medella Home Physio and OT in October on discovering my Uncle had developed an arm contracture whilst in a care home. Naomi was so helpful and after listening to my concerns recommended Kate. I cannot express what a difference Kate made to my Uncles life. Her care and compassion went over and above what she needed to do. She took time, often I think after the end of her working day to speak to me and keep me up to date with his care and condition. His quality of life improved with her involvement. She was able to teach the care staff ways to look after him to help minimise the pain he had and to give him back some autonomy. I wish every care home called employ a Kate to ensure that residents do not develop unnecessary contractures and are empowered to have some control back into their lives. Kate was able to advise, staff he eating, moving, exercises, positioning, correct equipment and so much more. I would like to express my heart felt thanks to Kate and highly recommend Medella as a company. Wendy."

Why Home Visits Suit Bournemouth
Bournemouth sits within the Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole (BCP) area, where more than 86,000 residents — around one in five — are aged 65 or over (2021 Census), and roughly one in four households is a single person or couple all aged 66 or over. Neighbouring Christchurch skews older still.
Getting to an appointment isn't always simple. University Hospitals Dorset asks patients to allow an extra 30 minutes for parking at the Royal Bournemouth site, which can be badly congested at peak times, and the nearest railway stations are at Pokesdown or Christchurch rather than the town centre — while around one in five BCP households has no car at all. For an older adult recovering from a stroke, a fall or surgery, the journey alone can undo much of the day's progress.
A home visit takes that away. We bring the therapy to you — and work on the actual stairs, bathroom and doorways you use every day, which matters in an area where more than a third of homes are flats or maisonettes.

Recovering After Hospital in Bournemouth
Many of the older adults we support in Bournemouth come to us after a hospital stay. Most are treated at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (University Hospitals Dorset), now the area's major emergency hospital and the site where acute stroke care has been brought together; planned and day-case care increasingly runs from Poole Hospital.
Once you are home, NHS rehabilitation in the community is provided by Dorset HealthCare's community therapy and stroke teams, alongside BCP Council's short-term reablement service. That support is typically time-limited — usually to around six weeks. When it comes to an end but recovery is still ongoing, we continue the work at home: unhurried, one-to-one physiotherapy and occupational therapy for as long as it is helping, alongside any NHS or council support already in place rather than in place of it.
Our guide to rehabilitation after a hospital stay explains how it works; for stroke recovery specifically, see stroke rehabilitation at home. Many families also find our hospital discharge planning guide helpful.

FAQs About Our Bournemouth Service
Do you cover areas like Southbourne and Boscombe?
Yes, our physiotherapists and occupational therapists provide home visits throughout Bournemouth, including Southbourne, Boscombe, Westbourne, Winton, Moordown, Kinson, and all surrounding areas covered by BH1–BH10 postcodes.
Can you help with recovery after Royal Bournemouth Hospital?
Absolutely. A large number of our Bournemouth clients require rehabilitation support after a hospital stay. We specialise in creating tailored programmes to help you regain strength and confidence safely at home. We can often begin sessions within 48 hours of your call. For more information about leaving hospital, see the UHD patient discharge guide.
Do I need a GP referral to book a home visit?
No, you can book our services directly without a referral. We always aim to work collaboratively with your GP or hospital consultant and will liaise with them when appropriate to ensure seamless care.
What's the difference between private and NHS physiotherapy?
Private physiotherapy means you can access treatment immediately without a GP referral or NHS waiting list. You choose when and where your sessions take place, and our therapists can spend more time with you during each visit. This type of domiciliary physiotherapy — where the therapist comes to your home — is ideal for patients who find clinic visits difficult.
How much does a home visit in Bournemouth cost?
Initial assessments are £120 (up to 60 minutes) and include a thorough evaluation plus a written treatment plan. Follow-up sessions start from £60. Most Bournemouth patients pay no travel fee. View our full price list.
Which hospital will I be discharged from in Bournemouth?
Most Bournemouth patients are treated at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, part of University Hospitals Dorset, which is now the area’s major emergency hospital and the site where acute stroke care is centralised; planned care increasingly runs from Poole Hospital. After discharge, NHS community rehabilitation and reablement (through Dorset HealthCare and BCP Council) are usually time-limited to around six weeks. We can continue your physiotherapy or occupational therapy at home once that support ends, or alongside it.
