"My daughter contacted Medella for advice after my major surgery and stroke. The receptionist was extremely helpful and felt Seena would be the right physiotherapist to help me. Seena has given a sympathetic but firm approach encouraging me to regain movement in both my arms and to also strengthen my legs. Her knowledge and expertise have been invaluable and her exercises gentle but challenging. I would highly recommend her."

Why Choose Home Visits in Romsey?

Romsey is a picturesque market town with a strong community spirit and beautiful historic centre. While the town offers excellent local amenities, many residents — particularly those recovering from surgery, illness, or managing mobility difficulties — find it challenging to travel to clinic appointments. Our home visit service brings expert rehabilitation directly to your door, allowing you to recover in familiar surroundings with the people who matter most nearby.

Treatment in Your Environment

We assess and treat you in your own home — practising on your stairs, using your furniture, and identifying real hazards in your living space.

Hospital Discharge Support

We work closely with Romsey Community Hospital and Southampton General to ensure a smooth transition home with continuity of care.

Consistent Care

You'll typically see the same therapist each visit, building a relationship and ensuring continuity of care — unlike busy hospital services.

Home Visits and an Ageing Test Valley

Test Valley is growing older faster than England as a whole. At the 2021 Census, 21.3% of the borough's residents were aged 65 or over — around one in five — and the number of over-65s had risen by nearly 30% in the previous decade, well ahead of the national trend. The borough's median age, 44, sits several years above the England figure of around 40. (These are borough-wide figures for Test Valley, not Romsey town alone.)

Romsey itself is a compact market town, but much of the surrounding SO51 area is genuinely rural — Braishfield, Ampfield, Awbridge and the scattered lanes towards the New Forest fringe, where bus services are thin. For an older adult, the real question is often not whether an appointment exists but whether they can get to it, park, walk in, wait, and get home again. That everyday difficulty shows in the numbers: the volunteers of Romsey Good Neighbours alone make around 2,500 trips to medical appointments a year.

A home visit removes that journey. We bring the assessment and the therapy to you, with family close by rather than in a distant waiting room — and everything we work on is the home you actually live in.

Coming Home to Romsey After Hospital

Most Romsey residents who need hospital care are treated at Southampton General Hospital (University Hospital Southampton), a few miles to the south-east. Depending on the specialty, some pathways instead run through the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, so it is worth checking the discharge paperwork for the name of the team taking over.

Romsey is unusual in having its own community hospital. Romsey Hospital — part of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust — runs two rehabilitation wards (Nightingale and Chichester, 19 beds) that help people regain enough strength and confidence to return home, often within around two weeks. Once you are back at home, NHS community rehabilitation comes from the same trust's community therapy teams, with reablement delivered by Hampshire County Council — free and, in line with NICE guidance (NG74), typically time-limited to around six weeks.

When that NHS and council support ends but recovery is still going, we pick it up at home — senior physiotherapy and occupational therapy for as long as it is useful, fitting around any care you are already receiving. Our guide to planning a hospital discharge explains what families can expect, and our elderly rehabilitation and mobility service is often where that ongoing work begins.

FAQs About Our Romsey Service

Do you visit homes in North Baddesley and Wellow?

Yes, our physiotherapists and occupational therapists provide home visits throughout Romsey and all surrounding Test Valley villages, including North Baddesley, Wellow, Nursling, Rownhams, Ampfield, and Braishfield.

Can you help after a stay at Romsey Community Hospital?

Absolutely. We frequently help clients transition home after a stay at Romsey Community Hospital, as well as larger acute hospitals like Southampton General. Our therapists specialise in creating tailored programmes to help you regain strength and confidence safely at home.

Why is home-based therapy better than going to a clinic?

For many of our clients, home is the best place for rehabilitation. It removes the stress and difficulty of travel, and it allows our therapists to see your exact living environment. This means we can provide real-world advice and practice tasks that are directly relevant to you, such as navigating your own stairs or getting in and out of your favourite chair.

How quickly can you visit me in Romsey?

We aim to offer appointments within 24–48 hours to patients in Romsey and the surrounding villages — often much faster than NHS waiting lists. This is especially important if you’ve recently been discharged from hospital and need prompt support.

Initial assessments are £120 (60–90 min) and include a thorough evaluation plus a written treatment plan. Follow-up sessions start from £60. Most Romsey patients pay no travel fee. View our full price list.
