Arthritis & Joint Pain Support at Home

Managing Arthritis at Home: You don’t have to just “put up with it.”

“It’s just my age” is a phrase we hear too often. While arthritis is common, living in constant pain shouldn’t be the norm. When joints become stiff and painful, the natural reaction is to stop moving. Unfortunately, this creates a cycle where muscles weaken, joints become stiffer, and confidence fades.

Our specialist home-visit team helps you break that cycle. We provide gentle, evidence-based therapy in your own home to reduce pain, improve your mobility, and help you get back to doing the things you enjoy.

Conditions We Treat at Home

Osteoarthritis (Wear & Tear)

Managing pain in hips, knees, and hands through strengthening and pacing.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Strategies to protect your joints and maintain flexibility without causing flare-ups.

General Joint Stiffness

Helping you regain confidence after a period of inactivity or bed rest.

The “Whole Person” Approach to Arthritis and Joint Pain

Joint pain rarely affects just one part of your life. That is why we provide a multi-disciplinary team. By combining Physiotherapy (movement) and Occupational Therapy (living skills), we treat the whole person, not just the diagnosis.

THE PHYSIOTHERAPY ROLE

Building the Support

Arthritic joints need support. Our Physiotherapists work with you to strengthen the muscles around the joint, taking the pressure off the bone itself.

  • Gentle Strengthening: Exercises tailored to your pain levels.

  • Range of Movement: Stretches to prevent stiffness setting in.

  • Balance Work: Because stiff joints can often lead to falls.

  • Pain Management: Advice on heat, ice, and pacing your day.

THE OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ROLE

Protecting the Joint

Our Occupational Therapists (OTs) focus on “Joint Protection”—practical ways to do daily tasks without straining your body.

  • Gadgets & Aids: From jar openers to button hooks, small tools can make a huge difference to arthritic hands.

  • Pacing Strategies: Learning how to manage your energy so you don’t overdo it.

  • Home Assessment: Recommendations for equipment (like perching stools) that allow you to rest while cooking or washing.

Why treat arthritis at home?

If you have stiff knees or a painful back, sitting in a car to travel to a clinic is often the worst thing for it. By the time you arrive, you are stiff and sore.

By seeing you at home, we catch you in your natural environment. We can look at the chair you sit in for hours and advise if it is supporting you correctly. We can watch you manage your own stairs and offer immediate, practical tips to make it less painful.

No travel.

No waiting rooms.

Just expert care in your most comfortable chair.

Will exercise make my arthritis worse?

It is a common myth that exercise wears out joints. In fact, gentle, controlled movement “oils” the joints and strengthens the muscles that support them, often reducing pain in the long term. We will ensure any exercise is safe for your level of condition.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can contact us directly to arrange a home visit.

Can you help with flare-ups?

Yes. When arthritis flares up, rest is important, but total immobility can make things worse. We can guide you on the right balance of rest and gentle movement to get you through a bad patch.
