Elderly Rehabilitation & Mobility Support at Home

Has your world become smaller?

It often starts slowly. You might find yourself avoiding the stairs, needing help to get out of your favourite chair, or feeling too unsteady to walk to the shops. For many, this loss of mobility leads to a loss of confidence, causing you to do less, which only makes the muscles weaker. It is a vicious cycle that can leave you feeling trapped in your own home. You don’t have to accept this as “just getting old.” Much of what we call aging is actually deconditioning – a reversible loss of strength and fitness. Our specialist home-visit team helps you stop this decline, rebuild your strength, and regain the freedom to live life on your terms.

The “Whole Person” Approach to Mobility

Staying mobile isn’t just about strong legs; it’s about having a safe environment and the confidence to move within it. That is why we combine Physiotherapy (to build the engine) with Occupational Therapy (to clear the road). By treating both your body and your home setup, we often see rapid improvements in independence.

THE PHYSIOTHERAPY ROLE

Our Physios focus on reversing muscle loss (sarcopenia) and building stability.

  • Otago Strength Training: Gentle, clinically proven exercises to strengthen leg muscles.

  • Functional Rehab: Practicing the exact movements you find hard (e.g., standing up from a low chair).

  • Gait Re-education: Correcting “shuffling” or uneven stepping to prevent trips.

  • Floor Recovery: Teaching you the technique to get up safely if you do fall.

THE OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ROLE

Our OTs ensure your daily routine and environment support your independence.

  • Seating Assessments: Expert advice on riser-recliner chairs to make standing easier.

  • Fatigue Management: Strategies to conserve energy so you can do more of what you love.

  • Home Safety: Identifying hazards like loose rugs or dim lighting that knock your confidence.

  • Aids & Equipment: Recommending the right walking aids or rails to keep you safe.

Why treating mobility at home works best

You cannot learn to be safe in your own home by walking on a smooth, flat clinic floor. Real life involves thick carpets, narrow hallways, and garden steps. By seeing you at home, we see the real challenges you face. We can practice getting in and out of your bed, walking to your kitchen, and navigating your bathroom. This real-world practice builds genuine confidence that translates immediately into your daily life.

Is it too late to improve my mobility?

It is rarely too late. Research shows that muscle strength can be improved even in people aged 90 and above. While we may not have the goal of running a marathon, we can almost always improve your stability, confidence, and ability to perform daily tasks safely.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

No, you do not need a GP referral to access our private service. You can call us directly to book an assessment. However, we are happy to communicate with your GP or consultant if you wish to keep them informed of your progress.

Will you force me to do difficult gym exercises?

Absolutely not. We believe in functional rehabilitation. This means your “exercises” might be practicing standing up from your chair, walking to the front door, or stepping into the garden. We tailor everything to your current ability and energy levels.

Which areas do you visit?

We provide home visits across Hampshire, Dorset, and Wiltshire. This includes Ringwood, Bournemouth, Poole, Southampton, Salisbury, and the surrounding villages.
