Dizziness & Vertigo Rehabilitation at Home

Is the world spinning around you?

Dizziness is an invisible illness, but the impact is devastating. Whether you are suffering from the sudden, violent spinning of Vertigo (BPPV) or a constant, draining sense of unsteadiness, it destroys your confidence. You might find yourself gripping furniture to walk, avoiding shops because the lights make you feel “spaced out,” or staying in bed for fear of falling. You don’t have to live with the spinning. Dizziness is rarely “just old age” – it is a treatable physiological issue. Our specialised home-visit service brings expert Vestibular Rehabilitation directly to you, so you can recover without the nightmare of travelling to a clinic.

The “Whole Person” Approach

Treating dizziness isn’t just about fixing the inner ear; it’s about rebuilding your trust in your own body. We combine Vestibular Physiotherapy to treat the physical cause with Occupational Therapy to manage the anxiety and practical challenges that come with feeling unsteady.

THE PHYSIOTHERAPY ROLE

Our Specialist Physios use clinically proven techniques to reset your balance system.

  • BPPV Treatment: Using the “Epley Manoeuvre” to reposition crystals in the inner ear (often fixing vertigo in 1-3 sessions).

  • Gaze Stability: Exercises to stop the world blurring when you move your head.

  • Balance Retraining: Strengthening the connection between your eyes, ears, and feet.

  • Habituation: Gentle, repetitive movements to desensitise your brain to dizziness triggers.

THE OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ROLE

Our OTs help you navigate the world safely while you recover.

  • Visual Vertigo Management: Strategies for coping with busy environments like supermarkets or patterned carpets.

  • Anxiety & Breath Work: Techniques to stop the “panic cycle” that often accompanies dizziness.

  • Fall Prevention: assessing your home to remove hazards that are dangerous when you feel “spaced out.”

  • Energy Pacing: Managing the extreme fatigue that comes from your brain working overtime to keep you upright.

Why treating Vertigo at home makes sense

If you are suffering from dizziness, the last thing you should do is get in a car. Travelling to a clinic can trigger nausea, spike your anxiety, and leave you too exhausted to benefit from the session. By visiting you at home, we remove the stress of travel. We can also assess you in your real environment – treating you on your bed, practicing walking on your carpet, and helping you feel safe in the place where you spend the most time.

How quickly can you fix Vertigo (BPPV)?

If your dizziness is caused by BPPV (loose crystals in the inner ear), results can be dramatic. We can often resolve the spinning sensation in just 1 to 3 sessions using the Epley Manoeuvre. Other balance conditions may take longer and require a consistent exercise plan.

Will the exercises make me feel sick?

Sometimes, yes—but only briefly. Vestibular rehabilitation works by “retraining” the brain, which requires exposing it to the movements that make you dizzy. We will always work at your pace, and while you might feel momentarily unsteady during the session, this is a sign the treatment is targeting the right area.

Do I need a doctor’s referral or an MRI?

No. Our physiotherapists are trained to perform comprehensive vestibular assessments. We can perform specific tests (like the Dix-Hallpike test) to diagnose the cause. If we spot any “red flags” that require medical investigation, we will refer you to your GP immediately.

Which areas do you visit?

We provide home visits across Hampshire, Dorset, and Wiltshire. This includes Ringwood, Bournemouth, Poole, Southampton, Salisbury, and the surrounding villages.
