“Even after thirty years, I’m still passionate about helping people find ways to achieve their goals — however big or small. If it’s important to the person, then it becomes the focus of our sessions together.”
Janet is a Senior Physiotherapist with more than thirty years’ experience, around twenty-five of them specialising in stroke and neurological rehabilitation. She provides home visits across west Dorset — Dorchester, Weymouth and Portland, Bridport and Wareham — alongside her senior role in the Dorset Stroke and Neuro Service.
A career specialising in neurology
Janet trained as a physiotherapist in Birmingham and went on to complete an MSc in Neurorehabilitation, building a career at the forefront of neurological physiotherapy — including time at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London. She has worked with people living with stroke, acquired brain injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, and motor neurone disease across the whole journey — from the early days after a diagnosis through to long-term rehabilitation at home. Today she is a specialist physiotherapist and clinical lead within the Dorset Stroke and Neuro Service, and she still teaches, including a high-intensity exercise programme for people recovering from stroke.
Bringing specialist rehabilitation home
Janet is a firm believer in the value of working with people in their own surroundings. “Working with someone in their home helps build a picture of who they really are,” she says, “and it helps them practise their goals in the place that matters most — their own environment.” Alongside her neurological expertise, she supports older adults with falls prevention, balance and dizziness, and rebuilding mobility and confidence after a fall, a hospital stay, or surgery.
How Janet works with her patients
Above all, Janet works with people rather than at them. She takes the time to understand what each person actually wants to be able to do again, and builds the rehabilitation around that — at a pace that feels right. Expect a calm, encouraging approach, grounded in three decades of specialist experience but always focused on the practical progress that means the most to you and your family.
Outside of work
When she’s not with patients, Janet spends her time with family and friends, and makes space for yoga.
