What you can ask us about

A friendly OT will listen to what's getting in the way of the activities that matter most — then offer practical ideas, equipment guidance, and pointers to the right next step.

Easier, safer daily living

Washing, dressing, cooking, getting in and out of a chair — small changes that make daily tasks feel manageable again.

Home adaptations

Grab rails, raised toilet seats, stairlifts, wet rooms — what's worth doing, in what order, and how to fund it.

Choosing mobility aids

Walking frames, rollators, wheelchairs, riser-recliners — independent advice on what fits you, your home, and how you actually live.

Local services & grants

Signposting to council adult social care, Age UK, Disabled Facilities Grant routes, and other support you may be entitled to.

Who the clinic is for

You don't need a diagnosis or a referral. If something at home has become harder than it used to be, come and chat.

Recovering from hospital

After a fall, stroke, hip or knee surgery — when discharge planning didn't quite cover everything and you're working out what comes next.

Managing a long-term condition

Living with arthritis, Parkinson's, MS, dementia or general frailty — and looking for small changes that protect what you can still do.

Supporting a loved one

Family, friend or carer trying to make a parent's home safer, choose the right equipment, or navigate the maze of who-to-call-next.

How a drop-in works

1

Drop in any time

Between 11am–3pm on a clinic Friday. No need to book — just walk in. If we're with someone when you arrive, you'll wait a few minutes.

2

Free informal chat

Sit down with one of our OTs for around 15–20 minutes. Tell us what's tricky, what you've already tried, and what you're hoping to be able to do.

3

Practical next steps

You'll leave with practical recommendations, signposting to the right services, and — if it would help — a clear sense of whether a paid home visit is worth booking.

What this clinic is — and isn't

We want everyone who comes along to leave feeling helped, so we're upfront about what a short pop-up chat can and can't do.

What we can help with on the day

  • Practical tips for safer daily living
  • General home adaptation guidance
  • Independent advice on mobility aids and equipment
  • Signposting to local services, grants and entitlements
  • An honest view on whether a paid home visit would help

What needs a home visit or other service

  • A full functional OT assessment
  • Hands-on rehabilitation or treatment
  • Written reports for solicitors, insurers or grant applications
  • Detailed home environment assessment in your home
  • Anything urgent — please contact NHS 111 or your GP

Medella's paid occupational therapy is home-visit only. The pop-up clinic is a short advice session — if you need a full assessment, we'd book to come to your home. Learn about home-visit OT.

Who'll you'll meet

The Poole drop-in is led by Sarah, one of Medella's most experienced occupational therapists.

Sarah brings over two decades of OT experience, including senior local authority roles. She has particular expertise in home adaptations, mental capacity & safeguarding, and technology-enabled care.

Common questions about the Poole clinic

Is the Poole drop-in clinic really free?

Yes — completely. There’s no charge for the clinic chat, no obligation to book anything afterwards, and no pressure to buy from Rapid Mobility. Medella’s OTs run the session as a community advice service. If, after we’ve chatted, it looks like a paid home visit would help, we’ll tell you — and you can decide in your own time.

Do I need to book, or can I just turn up?

Just turn up. The clinic is drop-in only on every other Friday between 11am and 3pm — first-come, first-served. If we’re already with someone when you arrive, you’ll wait a few minutes. Calling ahead isn’t required, but if you’re travelling any distance, a quick call to 01425 490151 confirms we’ll be there that day.

How long will I be seen for at the clinic?

Each chat is usually 15–20 minutes. That’s enough time to hear what’s getting in the way of your daily routine, talk through practical options, and point you to the right next step. If your situation is complex and would benefit from a longer look, we’ll suggest booking a paid home visit so you get the time you deserve.

What should I bring to the drop-in clinic?

Nothing is required, but a few things help if you have them:

  • A short list of the daily tasks you’re finding tricky.
  • Any hospital discharge letter, recent assessment, or list of conditions.
  • Photos of your home — especially the bathroom, stairs, or any space you’d like advice about. Phone photos are fine.
  • A family member or carer who’ll be involved in any next steps.
I can't get to Poole on a Friday — what are my options?

Medella’s paid occupational therapy is home-visit only, so the easiest alternative is to book one of our OTs to come to you. Initial assessments are £120, follow-ups from £60. Call 01425 490151 for a free, no-obligation chat about what would suit your situation, or use our contact form.

Can I bring a family member or carer with me?

Absolutely — please do. So much of what we discuss is easier with a family member or carer in the room: they’ll often spot things you wouldn’t think to mention, and they’ll remember the practical recommendations more reliably than a tired note in a notebook. Carers, friends, and adult children are all welcome.

Do I need to buy anything from Rapid Mobility?

No. Rapid Mobility have kindly offered their space for the clinic, but the OT advice is from Medella and the two are completely separate. If you need a particular piece of equipment, we’ll recommend what’s right for you — and you’re free to source it from wherever you like. The clinic carries no obligation to buy anything from anyone.

What happens if I need more than a quick chat?

We’ll be honest with you. A 15–20 minute drop-in chat is great for ideas, equipment guidance and signposting — but a full functional OT assessment, a written report, hands-on rehabilitation, or a detailed home environment review needs a proper home visit. If that’s what would help, we’ll explain why, what’s involved, and what it would cost — then leave the decision entirely up to you.

Can't make it on a Friday?

For anything beyond a short advice chat — a full functional assessment, hands-on rehabilitation, or a detailed home environment review — our occupational therapists visit you at home, anywhere across Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire.
