Respiratory Conditions We Treat at Home

Our specialist respiratory physiotherapists treat a range of lung and breathing conditions in your own home. Each treatment programme is tailored to your specific diagnosis, symptoms, and daily challenges.

COPD & Emphysema

Practical techniques to manage breathlessness, conserve energy, and improve your daily tolerance for activity. We help you do more with less effort and reduce the likelihood of hospital admissions.

Bronchiectasis & Chest Infections

Specialist clearance techniques to remove phlegm and secretions from the chest effectively and comfortably. We teach you self-management strategies to reduce the frequency and severity of infections.

Breathing Pattern Disorders

Retraining your breathing rhythm to reduce hyperventilation, anxiety-driven breathlessness, and chronic coughing. Many people breathe inefficiently without realising it — we can help correct this.

Pulmonary Fibrosis

Gentle exercise and breathing techniques to maximise the function of your remaining lung capacity. We help you stay as active and independent as possible.

Post-COVID Breathing Difficulties

Rehabilitation for persistent breathlessness, reduced exercise tolerance, and breathing pattern changes following a COVID-19 infection.

Long-Term Oxygen Therapy

We are experienced in treating patients on oxygen. We can help you manage your tubing safely and maximise your mobility while on oxygen.

How Our Team Helps with Respiratory Conditions at Home

Our physiotherapists and occupational therapists work together to help you manage your breathing, clear your chest, and conserve energy for the activities that matter most.

Respiratory Physiotherapy

Active treatments designed to improve your quality of life — often from the very first session.

  • Secretion Clearance (ACBT) — Teaching you techniques to clear phlegm effectively, putting you in control of your condition.
  • Breathlessness Management — Learning breathing control and pacing strategies in your actual home environment so they become second nature.
  • Exercise Tolerance Training — Gentle, progressive exercise to rebuild stamina and reduce breathlessness during everyday activities.
  • Singing for Lung Health — Evidence-based singing techniques to improve lung volume and posture while boosting mood.
  • Anxiety & Breathlessness Cycle — Practical tools to break the cycle of panic and regain a sense of control.

Energy Conservation & Daily Living

For people with chronic lung conditions, fatigue can be as limiting as breathlessness itself. Practical strategies for managing daily life with less effort.

  • Pacing & Energy Conservation — Learning to plan your day so you can do more without exhaustion and identifying where energy is being wasted.
  • Home Environment Review — Reorganising your kitchen to reduce reaching and bending, saving your breath for activities you enjoy most.

How Respiratory Physiotherapy Can Help

Respiratory physiotherapy can help at all stages of lung disease — from a new diagnosis through to managing a long-term condition. Whatever your situation, the aim is to improve your breathing, maximise your physical function, and help you live as fully as possible.

Improve breathing control

Learn techniques to breathe more efficiently and manage episodes of breathlessness calmly.

Clear your chest effectively

Master airway clearance techniques — from active cycle breathing to PEP devices and postural drainage — so you can manage secretions independently.

Build exercise tolerance

Gradually increase your stamina so everyday activities — walking, climbing stairs, getting dressed — become less exhausting.

Reduce hospital admissions

Better self-management and earlier intervention during flare-ups can help you stay out of hospital.

Manage breathlessness anxiety

Break the cycle of panic and breathlessness with practical tools that give you back a sense of control.

Recover after illness or surgery

Regain lung function and physical strength after chest infections, pneumonia, or thoracic surgery.

Why Treat Lung Conditions at Home?

If you are struggling with your breathing, the last thing you want to do is travel to a clinic. The effort of getting ready, walking to the car, and sitting in a waiting room can use up all the energy you have — leaving nothing for the actual therapy.

By seeing you at home, we can assess your environment — potential allergens, stair access, the layout of your bedroom and bathroom — and help you manage your breathing in the place where you spend the most time. We can also apply energy conservation techniques to your actual daily routine, not a hypothetical one.

For family members, seeing how your therapist works with your loved one means you can learn to support their breathing management between sessions.

What to Expect

1

Free phone consultation

Speak with our team to discuss your symptoms and medical history. For respiratory conditions, it is often helpful if we can see your latest clinic letter or discharge summary.

2

Initial assessment at home

Your respiratory physiotherapist visits your home, listens to your chest, assesses your breathing pattern, and understands the daily activities you find most difficult. They create a personalised treatment plan.

3

Treatment sessions

Regular home visits to teach clearance techniques, practise breathing control, and progressively build your exercise tolerance. Session frequency depends on your needs — some conditions benefit from twice-weekly visits initially.

4

Self-management confidence

Our goal is to equip you with the techniques and confidence to manage your condition independently. We teach you skills you can use every day, not just during sessions.

Pricing

Home visit respiratory physiotherapy from £60 per session. Your initial assessment is a comprehensive 60-90 minutes session at £120. No hidden costs. The first 5 miles of travel are free.

"I can highly recommend this wonderful home visiting Physiotherapy team. Naomi who takes your initial enquiry was brilliant. She took lots of time to listen to our situation and explained the services that they can provide. Once we decided to proceed a discussion is had with the team and the Physio best suited to the patient's needs is allocated. The team deal with both the mental and physical side of ill health which really helps. Our patient was in a pretty bad way and not in a position to travel so finding a home physio service was a godsend. Leah, our physio was wonderful, so kind, patient, respectful and understanding and really helped to move our patient forward after a very bad crushed vertebrae. Not only was she great on her visits but really supportive and helpful via email too. She really cares about the progression of the recovery and I am happy to say that our patient is really very well now. If you have someone young or old that needs great home physio, with efficient, caring, compassionate and highly skilled Physiotherapy then these are the people for you. Thank you so much Leah — you've been amazing."

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the exercises make me more out of breath?

Our goal is to make you less breathless, not more. We start very gently, focusing on breathing control first. Any physical activity is introduced slowly and safely at your own pace. Over time, most patients find they can do more with less effort.

Can you help if I am on oxygen?

Yes. We are experienced in treating patients on long-term oxygen therapy. We can help you manage your tubing safely and maximise your mobility while on oxygen. Your therapist will work with your existing respiratory team to ensure a joined-up approach.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

No, you can contact us directly. However, for respiratory conditions it is often helpful if we can see your latest clinic letter or discharge summary to understand your medical history fully. This helps us tailor treatment safely to your specific condition.

How is this different from NHS pulmonary rehabilitation?

NHS pulmonary rehab is excellent but is typically group-based at a clinic, with waiting lists. Our private respiratory physiotherapy at home offers one-to-one treatment, tailored to your specific condition and environment, starting within days rather than weeks. We work alongside the NHS — not instead of it — and some of our therapists also hold NHS respiratory positions.

Which areas do you cover?

We provide home visits across Hampshire, Dorset, and Wiltshire. This includes Southampton, Bournemouth, Poole, Salisbury, Ringwood, and the surrounding towns and villages.

Breathe Easier at Home

You do not have to manage breathlessness alone. Our specialist respiratory physiotherapists can help you take back control of your breathing and your daily life — all from the comfort of your own home.
