Regaining Independence After a Serious Accident

After a serious road traffic accident left him with 17 fractures, internal bleeding, and weeks in a coma, life looked very different for our 55-year-old client. Following multiple surgeries and a long hospital stay, he was finally able to return home – but his recovery journey was only just beginning.

That’s when his case manager got in touch with us, asking for physiotherapy support to help him rebuild strength, confidence, and independence.

A Step at a Time

Over the course of 12 sessions, we focused on what mattered most to him: regaining movement in his legs, building his strength and balance, and learning to trust his body again. At first, even simple daily activities were challenging – but little by little, progress came.

New Confidence, New Purpose

The changes have been remarkable. His knee movement has improved by 40 degrees, his pain has reduced, and he’s even back behind the wheel again. We supported him to join a local gym, giving him the tools to keep getting stronger. He’s also welcomed a new pet cat into his life – bringing him companionship, a sense of purpose, and plenty of smiles.

Most importantly, he’s been able to return to one of his great passions: fishing. Recently, he managed his first overnight fishing trip since the accident. It wasn’t easy, but it marked a powerful step in reclaiming the things he loves most.

Moving Forward

He still has further to go, but he’s already achieved so much. With greater strength, confidence, and independence, he’s finding joy and purpose again – and beginning to reconnect with life the way it was before the accident.
