Elderly Rehabilitation & Mobility Support at Home

Has your world become smaller?

It often starts slowly. You might find yourself avoiding the stairs, needing help to get washed and dressed, or feeling too unsteady to cook a simple meal. For many, this loss of mobility leads to a loss of confidence, causing you to do less, which only leads to further muscle weakness. It is a vicious cycle. You don’t have to accept this as “just getting old.” Much of what we call aging is actually deconditioning – a reversible loss of strength and fitness. Our specialist team provides dedicated elderly rehabilitation and home visits to help older adults stop this decline, rebuild their strength, and regain the freedom to live life on their terms.

The “Whole Person” Approach to Mobility

Staying mobile isn’t just about strong legs; it’s about having a safe environment and the confidence to move within it. That is why we combine Physiotherapy (to build the engine) with Occupational Therapy (to clear the road). By treating both your body and your home setup, we often see rapid improvements in independence and overall quality of life for elderly people wishing to remain in their own homes.

THE PHYSIOTHERAPY ROLE

Restoring Movement & Confidence

Our Physiotherapists focus on reversing muscle loss (sarcopenia) and building the physical stability needed to stay in your own home.

  • Otago Strength Training: We use evidence-based, gentle strengthening exercises designed specifically to improve balance and reduce the risk of falling.

  • Functional Rehabilitation: We don’t just do gym exercises; we practice the exact movements you find hard, like standing up from a low chair or getting into bed safely.

  • Gait Re-education: We correct “shuffling,” uneven stepping, or hesitancy to improve your walking speed and reduce the risk of tripping on carpets or uneven paths.

  • Floor Recovery Techniques: Fear of falling is common. We can teach you (and your family) specific techniques to get up safely from the floor if a fall does occur.

  • Deconditioning Reversal: Targeted conditioning to combat the weakness that comes after a hospital stay or a period of inactivity.

THE OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ROLE

Enabling Daily Living

Our Occupational Therapists ensure your daily routine supports your independence, bridging the gap between ability and your activities of daily living.

  • Seating Assessments: Expert advice on the right chair height or prescription of riser-recliner chairs to make standing up effortless and safe.

  •

  • Fatigue Management: We teach you practical strategies to conserve energy, allowing you to do more of what you love without exhaustion.

  •

  • Home Safety Checks: We identify the hidden hazards, like loose rugs, dim lighting, or trip hazards, that knock your confidence and increase fall risk.

  •

  • Aids & Equipment: Recommendations for the right walking aids, grab rails, or bathroom equipment to keep you safe without making your home feel like a hospital.

  •

  • Daily Living Skills: Practical techniques and small aids to help you manage washing, dressing, and meal preparation independently again.

Why treating mobility at home works best

You cannot learn to be safe in your own home by walking on a smooth, flat clinic floor. Real life involves thick carpets, narrow hallways, and garden steps. By delivering our physiotherapy services directly to you, we see the real challenges you face. We can practice getting in and out of your bed, walking to your kitchen, and navigating your bathroom. This person-centred approach makes care at home more effective and builds genuine confidence that translates immediately into your daily life.

Is it too late to improve my mobility?

It is rarely too late. Research shows that physical abilities can be improved even in people aged 90 and above. While we may not have the goal of running a marathon, we can almost always improve your stability, confidence, and ability to perform daily activities safely.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

No, as a private service, we operate independently of the NHS, so you do not need a GP referral. You can call us directly to book. However, we are happy to communicate with your GP or consultant to ensure a joined-up approach to your care.

Do you visit patients in Care Homes?

Yes. We provide first class rehabilitation and care and support to residents in many care homes across Hampshire, Dorset, and Wiltshire. We work alongside care home staff to provide the dedicated, 1-on-1 therapy that busy staff may not have time for.

Will you force me to do difficult gym exercises?

Absolutely not. We believe in functional rehabilitation. This means your “exercises” might be practicing standing up from your chair, walking to the front door, or stepping into the garden. We tailor everything to your current ability and energy levels.

Which areas do you visit?

We provide home visits across Hampshire, Dorset, and Wiltshire. This includes Ringwood, Bournemouth, Poole, Southampton, Salisbury, and the surrounding villages.
